Fly fishing is quickly becoming the most popular excursion within Costa Rica because of the incredibly large variety of species which can be caught through this exhilarating form of fishing. Every avid angler wants the opportunity to catch a Marlin at one time or another and Costa Rica offers a wide variety of Marlin that can be caught throughout many different areas of the country and contrary to what you may think, catching a Marlin is not that unheard of. Many tourists return home from their Costa Rican adventure with pictures and fishing stories of their fight with the famous Marlin.

Quepos is one of the most highly recommended coastal towns on the Pacific side of Costa Rica when it comes to fly fishing for Marlin. Blue and Black Marlin are the most common, however once in awhile a striped Marlin is caught and released because of its rarity. Offshore fly fishing is the absolute best way to catch Marlin and anytime during the months from December to May. The high season for this type of extreme sport fishing is from January through to March and if fly fishing is your choice of excursion during your stay it is always beneficial to book ahead because locals often take advantage of this new popular sporting event as well.
